Welcome to the Winemaker of Winemakers page!
This award honours the best winemakers of the Carpathian Basin.
Its uniqueness and authenticity lies in the fact that the best wines are chosen by the nominated winemakers themselves, year after year.
The Winemaker of Winemakers Award was founded in 2007 by Pál Rókusfalvy.
The Vinum Praemium Foundation, which manages the Winemaker of Winemakers, has the explicit aim of securing the future of young winemakers (Future Winemaker Scholarship), to foster Hungarian wine culture and to reward the achievements of civil society.

WINEMAKERS' WINEMAKER
AWARDS GALA 2024
This was the 2024 Winemaker of Winemakers Awards
"There are many and varied honours and awards. But they all have one thing in common. They faithfully reflect the values, outlook and sensibilities of the donor. To receive an award is a special and uplifting feeling. As the moment of presentation passes, only those awards whose authenticity is unmistakable can give pride to their recipient and their environment for a lifetime or beyond."

"The Winemaker of Winemakers, Award and Gala was "just" a sympathetic initiative of my friend Pali Rókusfalvy, which I thought was a good "advertising idea", of course, if a professional with a marketing and organizational vein had given his head to winemaking, but I must admit that I did not believe that it could gain such prestige in such a short time. Of course, it also required Pali to wisely put the decision in the hands of the profession and to run the whole process from nomination to the award ceremony in a credible and high-quality manner, but knowing the founder, I had no reason to doubt that."

"The Winemaker of Winemakers Award is a very important and honourable title for me because it is a recognition of the profession. To receive recognition from people who know what is behind the work of a winemaker and winegrower by living and experiencing it is a very good feeling. I am delighted to have been chosen as the 2012 Winemaker of the Year by people I admire."

"The wine industry, like the banking sector, operates on a basis of trust: consumers want quality products from reliable sources, for the long term. Domestic wineries are consistently producing a range of valuable and internationally recognised products - which is why it is essential that we support the growth of quality wine producers with prestigious initiatives such as the Winemaker of Winemakers Award, alongside the funding needed to grow. MKB Bank and Takarékbank are involved in financing the production of practically every second glass of quality Hungarian wine and are market leaders in the entire agri-food industry, so it was a no-brainer for us to support the competition."

"But wine is an ancient drink that has been able to bring people of different minds together at the same table many times throughout history. Let's hope - naively - that with a sympathetic civic initiative like the Winemaker of Winemakers, this can be done again."

"I believe that in the wine sector, as in other sectors, the greatest recognition is the award given by the professionals. This recognition always emphasises the professional and human qualities of the recipient, beyond the size of the estate and business success."

"This award is about winemaking personalities and wine connoisseurs, not about the results of blind tests, so in this respect it is a comprehensive assessment of a winemaker's activities and wines. For this reason, and because of the transparency of the decision-making and the personalities that surround the award, I believe it is a valid and credible recognition that can serve as a reference point for wine lovers."

"The greatest measure of any award or recognition is the people who give it, and receiving recognition from the profession is always a great experience."

"The Hungarian wines are characterised by an extraordinary richness, diversity and variety, which encompass and express the essence of Hungarian culture, the Hungarian soul and the geographical and natural treasures of our homeland, the Carpathian Basin. The Hungarian National Trading House, which aims to promote the expansion of Hungarian businesses' export activities through its complex services, gives priority to the success of Hungarian wine on the international market. In this spirit, we are a professional partner of one of the most prestigious initiatives of the Hungarian wine sector, the Winemakers' Wine Champion Award."

"We all wonder which is your favourite and why? For similar reasons, I feel that the Winemaker of Winemakers Award is special and really valuable, because the winemakers themselves choose their favourite. They do this by appreciating not just the wines, but the whole person."

"Based on experience to date, the Winemaker of Winemakers Award revives the finest traditions of competition between winemakers, celebrating long-term achievement rather than momentary success, and thus elevates this noble competition from an increasingly devalued set of events."
